The City Agriculturist Office’s Fishery Resources on Monday led the official opening of the Fish Conservation Week, with an announcement on the list of activities that will ensure food security, conserving marine diversity and fishery resources.

Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Division Acting Head Aimee Evora, during the weekly flag ceremony, said the various activities are scheduled from September 15-19, in cooperation with the Cities Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Federation.

This year’s theme is “Pangisdaang Masagana, Sapat na Isda sa Bawat Pamilya”

On Monday, a seaborne patrol operation was conducted in the coastal waters of the city.

Evora said food packs were given to fishermen who are found to be compliant with the fishing licensing and boat registration during the seaborne patrol.

From September 16-17, the beneficiaries of Project Lawa and Binhi will have a feedfish formulation seminar, which serves as a follow up activity to the fish cultivation seminars initially provided to them.

“This Thursday, September 18, sa Bucana naa mi onsite application para sa kadtong mga mananagat nga walay pa’y fishing license. Pwede sila on site kay gi-request namo ang maritime, coastguard, and city treasurer’s office for one stop shop, para ma comply nila ang fishing license (On Thursday, September 18, we will have an onsite application for fishermen who still don’t have a fishing license. They can apply onsite because we requested the maritime, coast guard, and city treasurer’s office to set up a one-stop shop so they can comply with the fishing license),” she added.

This will be held at Purok 2, Barangay 76-A Bucana.

Evora added that a mangrove and tree planting activity and culmination program in Barangay Lasang will also be held on September 19.

“Ang City Government gina-acknowledge ang ilang [fisherfolk] contribution sa fisheries conservation, kay sila man gyud ang major partner sa mandate sa opisina (The City Government acknowledges the contribution of the fisherfolk to fisheries conservation, as they are truly the major partner in the mandate of the office),” she said.

“Sa among opisina, nagapaningkamot kami og buhat ug mga programa para matabangan nato ang atong fisherfolk. Sa ilang pagpanagat among gina-remind pirmi nga mag ingat sila, labi na kay habagat season karon. Padayon sa pag amping sa ilang pagpanagat aron maka-uli sila nga safe sa ilahang mga pamilya (Our office strives to create programs to help our fisherfolk. In their fishing activities, we always remind them to be careful, especially since it is the southwest monsoon season now. We continue to encourage them to stay safe while fishing so they can return safely to their families),” Evora said. CIO
