The City Government of Davao, through the City Agriculturist’s Office (CAgro) and in partnership with the Department of Agriculture (DA), celebrated the Rural Improvement Club (RIC) Achievement Day on Friday, October 17, 2025, at the Calinan Gymnasium in Calinan District.

Themed “Empowered Women, Progressive Communities: RIC as Partners in Rural Development,” the annual gathering brought together RIC members from various districts who participated in lectures, product displays, and presentations of RIC Club 2025 success stories.

The event featured booth contests, Zumba dance competitions, raffle draws, and the recognition of outstanding RIC associations and leaders.

During the celebration, Davao City Councilors Lorenzo Villafuerte and Al Ryan Alejandre delivered inspirational messages, commending the efforts of RIC members who continue to empower their communities through various initiatives.

Highly Urbanized City Agricultural and Fishery Council (HUCAFC) Chairperson and private sector representative Eduardo F. De Vera noted the continuing growth of RIC clubs and their members, attributing it to the collaborative efforts of the Davao City Agriculturist’s Office and its partner agencies.

Department of Agriculture–Regional Field Office XI Executive Director Macario Gonzaga also recognized the creativity and dedication of RIC members in advancing food security and promoting sustainable livelihoods across Davao City.

Meanwhile, Davao City Integrated Gender and Development (IGDD) representative Grace Ureta, in a message, emphasized the RICs’ role in promoting gender equality and strengthening the participation of women in local governance and community development. She said the RICs serve as a vital platform where women can learn, lead, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

The RIC serves as an organization of rural women that contributes to agricultural productivity and community development. Davao City currently has 133 RIC clubs with 4,381 members, all of which are part of the Davao City Rural Improvement Club Federation. The federation was recently accredited by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), ensuring organizational legitimacy and sustainability.

RIC groups remain active partners in agricultural programs, livelihood activities, nutrition campaigns, and environmental initiatives in collaboration with the CAgro, the DA, and other agencies. CIO
