The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) will spearhead for the third time the Riverwide Simulation Exercise (Simex) on September 27, 2025, covering barangays near the Davao River.

CDRRMO Acting Division Chief Lyndon Ancajas told Davao City Disaster Radio on Tuesday that the drill will cover several barangays.

“It will involve barangays Mandug, Waan, Ma-a, Tigatto, 9-B, 9-A, 10-A, 5-A, 8-A, 2-A, 1-A, Matina Crossing and Bucana,” Ancajas, also the Local Emergency Communications and Response Division (LECRD) – Central 911 and Acting Overall Training Supervisor, said.

He said that the activity aims to train and prepare communities for the possibility of river overflow and to test the capacity of the responders.

“Last Tuesday nag coordination meeting naming with the barangay and last Thursday sa volunteers (Last Thursday we had a coordination meeting with the barangays and last Thursday with the volunteers), “Ancajas said, adding that they also held coordination meetings with other government offices.

He said that the activity is set around 2 pm.

He added that last year’s simulation exercise in Barangay Toril was a huge success and they saw its positive effect due to the faster reaction of the communities in the area during the call for evacuation.

Ancajas reminded residents to stay alert and continue to follow weather advisories, especially with the recent mini Asik-Asik falls incident and the Pag-asa advisory on the possible development of La NiƱa in October.

“Until now sige’g dag-om so magbinantayon ta, sa panahon, sa call for evacuation, mu-evacuate (The cloudy skies persist, so we should remain alert, and once there is a call for evacuation, please evacuate),” Ancajas said.
