The Davao City Peace 911, in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd)–Davao City, continues to strengthen its peacebuilding and peace education efforts through the expansion of Dabawenyo DCplinado modules, equipping Dabawenyouth with discipline, moral formation and responsible citizenship.

The three day writeshop conducted on September 25 to 27, 2026, brings together education practitioners, peace building advocates alongside subject matter experts to review and enhance the modules.

Atty. Jonah Margarette F. Presto, Acting Head of Peace 911, said in her opening message that peacebuilding must begin not only at the community level but also within the minds, hearts and everyday behavior of learners.

“It is a dream come true for us from Peace 911, our stakeholders, our councils, our consultants for the inclusion of peace building in the module. A curriculum in our schools that every children here in Davao City will hear, will know about peace building. We have dreamt of expanding the reach of peace building program and now we are here,” she said.

“We also envisioned that this will not only impact the children but of course, their families, their community and this city,” she added.

Building upon the existing Dabawenyo DCplinado module as a foundation, the initiative expands its values-formation framework by incorporating key competencies related to conflict prevention and transformation, non-violent communication, respect for diversity and differences, responsible decision-making, anti-bullying and the prevention of school violence, digital citizenship and responsible online behavior, culture of peace and shared responsibility for the community.

Reynante Solitario, Schools Division Superintendent of DepEd, also encouraged educators to develop learning materials and messages that not only inform but also inspire, shaping habits that grow into values and ultimately become part of the community’s culture of peace.

“Dabawenyo D.C.plinado is more than just following rules. Through discipline is choosing to do what is right even when nobody is watching. It is respect, responsibility, compassion and a courage to make good choices. And who better to carry this message than our educators, right? Because every story that we write has the power to reach a child. Every message we create can inspire a learner to make better choice and understand that discipline is not a burden, but a way of life,” he said.

Leonard Eleobido, one of the writers from Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School, also expressed his gratitude for the initiative, noting that the enhanced materials will help Dabawenyo learners understand the importance of discipline in shaping their character and as responsible members of the community.

“Dako kaayo ang amoang pasalamat sa mga mag tutudlo kay magamit namo ang Self Learning Module or SLM. Para ang unod sa amoang module, naay touch on the Dabawenyo, D.C.plinado. So, with this matter, ma aware ang mga batan’on nga Dabawenyo kung unsa tung mga concept na kailangan ienhance and then for that module, didto mabasa sa mga bata kung unsa ang importante nga mga pamatasan nga makuha nato sa Dabawenyo, D.C.plinado (As teachers, we are really grateful for this initiative because we can use the Self-Learning Modules (SLMs). This way, the content of our modules will incorporate the Dabawenyo D.C.plinado values. Through this, young Dabawenyos will become aware of the concepts that needed to be enhanced, and through the modules, the children can read and learn about the important values and behaviors instilled by Dabawenyo D.C.plinado),” he added.

In 2024, Davao City initially launched the modules for Grade 6 and Grade 10 students at Teodoro L. Palma Gil Elementary School. The program was later rolled out to private schools with an official launch at the Holy Child College of Davao (HCCD) on August 13, 2026.

Through this partnership, the enhanced Dabawenyo DCplinado module will serve as an instrument, teaching students why only not discipline matters, but also how to navigate conflict constructively and uphold shared responsibility for community peace. CIO
