In a proactive move to break the stigma surrounding men’s health, Barangay Catalunan Grande, in partnership with the City Health Office’s Population Division, the Department of Health Region XI (DOH-XI), and the Southern Philippines Medical Center’s Urology Department, successfully conducted a Men’s Health Awareness activity on July 10. The initiative drew the participation of 42 male residents.
The program was designed to address common health issues afflicting men while strongly advocating for proactive health-seeking behaviors. Services rendered during the one-day event included free prostate screenings and no-scalpel vasectomy procedures, alongside an informative lecture on men’s health.
Highlighting the local government’s commitment to accessible healthcare, Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte, in a message delivered by Councilor Enzo Villafuerte, underscored the importance of equitable health services.
“We continue to implement comprehensive action plans and programs to provide equitable healthcare for all, ensuring that all members of our Dabawenyo community have access to essential health services,” he said.
“By providing free men’s health services, you continue to encourage men to be more mindful of their health, heighten their awareness on common health problems, and encourage early detection and treatment of illness,” Duterte added.
Out of the 42 men who participated in the event, 37 submitted themselves for check up.
Dr. Paul Dilig, the Men’s Health Program in-charge of the DOH-XI, added that the activity will also emphasize the importance of mental health, healthy lifestyle, and regular check-ups for men.
“The goal is simple—to encourage every man in our barangay to take active steps toward better health,” he said.
In line with the event, the City Government of Davao is urging all male residents aged 40 and above to prioritize regular health check-ups to facilitate early detection and treatment of potential illnesses. CIO
