The City Health Office (CHO), through the Tropical Diseases Control Division, said it has observed compliance by households on dengue prevention practices after receiving final warnings.
Tropical Disease Division Head Melodina Babante told Madayaw that they have started a house-to-house monitoring in the first, second and third district barangays and issued final warning to house owners with potential mosquito breeding sites.
She said those given final warning had complied with the anti-dengue protocols as found out in subsequent visits.
“Naay improvement kay pagbalik namo nalihok na, after 3-5 days nakita namo nga nacomply man (We saw an improvement because when we came back after 3-5 days, we saw that they had complied),” she said.
The CHO, Babante said, was authorized to issue citation tickets to violators, such as those having unused tires, bottles, and other containers without cover in their homes. But because those given warnings had eventually complied and removed the potential breeding sites, no citation ticket had been issued.
Under City Ordinance No. 0401-20, Series of 2020, or the Davao City Mosquito-Borne Diseases Prevention and Control Program, those who fail to remove potential mosquito breeding sites and have been given final warning will be fined Php 1,000 and two hours of community service for the first offense; a fine of Php 3,000 and four hours of community service for the second offense; and a fine of Php 5,000 and four hours of community service for third-time offenders
Babante urged Dabawenyos not to wait for the conduct of house to house surveillance before observing cleanliness in their surroundings.
“Ang akoang message sa mga Dabawenyo kay karon gina-implement nato ang City Ordinance No. 0401-20, Series of 2020 Section 16 and 17 magka-penalties na gyud ang tagbalay nga dili musunod. Magtinabangay ta na dili ma issuehan og citation ticket, mag comply ug padayon ang pagpalimpyo ug search and destroy (My message to Dabawenyos is that we are now implementing City Ordinance No. 0401-20, Series of 2020, Sections 16 and 17, and homeowners who do not comply will face penalties. Let us cooperate so that no one will be issued a citation ticket, by complying and continuing with cleaning, as well as the search and destroy activities),” Babante said. CIO
