The City Government of Davao, through the Office of the City Building Official (OCBO), urged owners of establishments that received red or yellow tags to comply with the conditions and safety requirements of the office before allowing re-occupancy to ensure the safety and protection of residents, tenants, and the general public.
“I would like to remind those establishments nga nakareceive og red tag or yellow tag to please comply with those notices. Please sunda ninyo para wala’y madisgrasya (I would like to remind establishments that received red or yellow tags to comply with these notices to prevent accidents from happening),” Ar. Khashayar Toghyani, OCBO’s Officer-in-Charge, said.
Following the recent series of earthquakes, the OCBO together with the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE) conducted a rapid visual inspection wherein several establishments in the city were given red tags and yellow tags.
Tohgyani explained that red tagged establishments are structures that sustained severe damages and are considered dangerous for occupancy.
“Red tag doesn’t mean nga kahugnuon na imong building, but it means that that is an eminent danger. High ang risk of danger ana and definitely dili ninyo dapat i-occupy (Red tag doesn’t mean that your building is about to collapse, it only means that there is a high risk of danger and it should not be occupied),” he explained.
As of October 13, four establishments were given red tag notices. These establishments are required to conduct a comprehensive structural assessment. Entry or use of its premises is prohibited until all necessary repairs have been completed and cleared by the OCBO.
Four other establishments in the city were issued yellow tag notices. Building owners are advised to restrict the use of these buildings due to moderate structural or non-structural damage requiring repairs.
Tohgyani said that certain areas of yellow tagged establishments remain accessible under controlled conditions, subject to the approval of the OCBO.
He also said that before these establishments can proceed with the necessary repairs, they are required to submit a comprehensive report detailing their assessment of the establishment along with their repair methodology to OCBO to acquire a repair permit, subject to the office’s review and approval.
For further details and guidance, establishment owners are urged to directly coordinate with OCBO. CIO
