The Office of the City Building Official (OCBO) urged building owners to comply with safety requirements following the latest round of inspections that resulted in additional two red and six yellow tags issued to several establishments.

Arch. Khashayar L. Toghyani, Officer-In-Charge of OCBO, called on building owners to be responsible, especially those with yellow or red tags, and act promptly to fix the issues.

“Katung mga na tag whether yellow or red, palihog ko atimana ninyo dayon. Kinahanglan kung unsay problema dinha, I find out ninyo unsa guy problema, para ma lift to og dili na mudako ang problema. Kinahanglan atung immediately repair. Tanan mga building owners, please be responsible (For those that have been tagged, whether yellow or red, please repair them immediately. You need to find out what the problem is so it can be lifted and won’t get worse. We need to repair them right away. All building owners, please be responsible),” Toghyani told Madayaw Davao over Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) on Monday October 20, 2025.

Toghyani also added that the importance of proactive compliance is to foster a culture of safety in Davao City’s built environment.

“It creates a culture of safety. For the future generation of buildings here in Davao City, owners will really make sure nga lig-on og safe ang mga building. Kung naglinog niya lig-on gyud ang building, you have peace of mind na gitarong gyud namog buhat ang building (It creates a culture of safety. For the future generation of buildings here in Davao City, owners will be more mindful in ensuring that their buildings are strong and safe. In case of an earthquake, if the building is truly sturdy, you’ll have peace of mind knowing it was built properly),” he said.

As of October 20, 2025, OCBO confirmed that inspections are ongoing, with two additional buildings added to the red-tagged list and six buildings for yellow tagged. Red tags were issued to Mapua Malayan Colleges Mindanao (Administrative and School Building), The Velvet Suites and Hotel/Oroderm City Magallanes Residences (Toledo Building 3).

Newly issued red tags includes the Pinnacle Hotel and Suites (Main building) and Transformer pad of University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP) Obrero.

Meanwhile, yellow tags were issued to Felcris Centrale (Buildings A, B, and C), Gaisano Mall of Davao – Bajada (Parking Building, Grocery Basement and Lower Basement) Vivaldi Residences Davao (Building Perimeter Only) and Mesatierra Garden Residences.

Other establishments that also received yellow tags are the University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP) Obrero (All classrooms of Mechatronics Building, Stock Rroom of Commission on Audit, Dean’s room and Pantry of College of Information and Computing, Cordoned Rooms at TLE building: Conference room, Dressmaking room, Cold kitchen) Ateneo de Davao University Roxas (2nd and 3rd floor hallway of Finster, cordoned portion of Thibault Hall), Teleperformance Davao (Fire Exit Number 8, Rosario Building-Premium AC Corp (Left wing pathway near backside of EastWest Bank only), EastWest Unibank- Rosario Building, Maa (Glassroom) BPI Family Savings Bank – Rosario Building, Maa (Vault room and ATM room).

OCBO also reminded all building owners to comply with the necessary repairs and ensure that their building meets the safety standards.

“Mag remind ko sa tanang buildings labi na kung na red tag mo. Palihog ko immediately repair those buildings. Kinahanglan dayon immediately repair para ma back to normal nata, magamit nato usab og ma ensure nato na safety sa usa ka building (I’m reminding all building owners, especially those with red-tagged ones. Please immediately repair those buildings. Repairs must be done right away so we can return to normal operations, make the buildings usable again, and ensure that buildings meet the safety standards),” he said. CIO
