The City Government of Davao on June 1, 2026 congratulated the athletes who represented the Davao Region and Davao City during the Palarong Pambansa 2026.
Davao Region was third place during the Palarong Pambansa held at Agusan del Sur from May 24- May 31, 2026, garnering a total of 100 medals with 34 gold, 32 silver, and 34 bronze medals.
This is the first time in history that the region has entered the top three in the national sporting event involving student-athletes from the different regions in the Philippines. The region ranked fourth twice successively in 2024 and 2025 after ranking 6th in Palarong Pambansa 2023.
Davao City was also hailed as the 5th Best Division during the Palarong Pambansa 2026 with 15 gold, 18 silver, and 16 bronze medals.
Davao City Sports Development Division (SDD) Head Michael Denton Aportadera told Madayaw that the achievement of the athletes is a sign of Dabawenyo resilience.
“Finally the region has shown the country its resilience, a unique attribute of the Dabawenyos. The victory of the athletes is a victory of all Dabawenyos,” Aportadera said.
The City Government of Davao, in a congratulatory post, honored every athlete’s hardwork, discipline, and determination which made possible the Davao Region’s remarkable 3rd overall Finish. The LGU also proudly congratulated the Davao Eagles, for achieving the 5th Best Division.

Your commitment to excellence has brought immense pride and honor to Davao and inspired countless young athletes to pursue their dreams.” the city’s official statement reads.

for this year’s Palaro made sure everyone’s readiness and has monitored the quartering of athletes, in close coordination with the Department of Education.
The City Government of Davao has always prioritized the welfare of its student athletes. On May 6, 2026, the LGU released Executive No. 15 Series of 2026 establishing the Atong Taga-an og Oportunidad ang Nangandoy nga Atleta (ATO NA) Athletes’ Scholarship Program, which recognizes the growing number of young athletes who have represented Davao in prestigious events such as DAVRAA Meet and the Palarong Pambansa.
Each student-athlete of the scholarship program may be entitled to a maximum of Php 25,000.00 for every semester or the beginning of the academic year. CIO
