In its continuing effort to provide decent, affordable, and sustainable housing for qualified Dabawenyos, the City Government of Davao, together with the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), BRIA Homes Inc., and other partners, held the groundbreaking ceremony for the Balai Calinan Housing Project in Barangay Talomo River on August 11.
The Balai Calinan project spans approximately 121,378 square meters of land donated by BRIA Homes Inc. It is among the City Government of Davao’s key housing initiatives aimed at addressing the needs of Dabawenyos by creating a safe, decent, affordable, sustainable, and inclusive community.
Estella Malate, EnP, Acting Head of the Davao City Housing Office, said the project is expected to provide around 630 socialized housing units once completed under the City Government’s Public Rental Transitory Housing Scheme.
“Through this scheme, the city can provide affordable, safe, and decent housing services through public rental to the underprivileged and homeless Dabawenyos,” she said.
In a message delivered by City Administrator Atty. Francis Mark Layog, Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte recognized the strong partnership between the city government, DHSUD, and the private sector, which has helped turn the Balai Calinan project into reality.
“This meaningful collaboration laid the foundation for what will soon become a thriving community—one that will give qualified beneficiaries the opportunity to have safe, affordable, and decent homes,” he said.
“With this project, we will be able to improve the welfare and well-being of more Dabawenyos and promote inclusive and sustainable urban development in the City of Davao,” Duterte emphasized.
He likewise assured the project’s stakeholders that the City Government of Davao will remain committed to carrying out its roles and responsibilities to ensure the successful implementation of the Balai Calinan project.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by officials from the City Government of Davao, representatives of DHSUD, BRIA Homes Inc., Vistaland Lifescapes Inc., and other stakeholders. CIO
