Dabawenyos may now enjoy warmth and comfort in a cup as they go about their transactions with the opening of the Kape Bara Prime coffee station at the lobby of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) on July 1.
The locally-owned coffee station brings an affordable selection of iced and hot beverages to employees, students, and visitors. Offering both coffee and non-coffee options, Kape Bara aims to provide the perfect energy boost for Dabawenyos navigating a busy day.
The opening follows the City Economic Enterprise’s (CEE) call for rental applications for the 16-square-meter ground floor space in July of last year.
“We felt so blessed and lucky kay out of all the other participants nga mga coffeeshops who were invited to join the raffling, kami ang maswerte nga nabunutan (Out of all the other participating coffee shops who were invited to join the raffle, we felt blessed and lucky that we were the one drawn),” Gamaliel J. Mendiola, owner of Kape Bara, said.
The new branch was met with strong support from the city government. In a message delivered by CEE Manager Maximo Macalipes Jr., Mayor Sebastian Duterte emphasized the administration’s commitment to supporting local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
“The establishment of your coffee station here at the Sangguniang Panlungsod is a testament to our shared commitment to advancing the rapidly growing coffee industry, as well as a welcome addition to the thriving local cafe and brewing culture in Davao City,” he said.
“The City Government remains steadfast in prioritizing business and industry support development through the continued strengthening of our Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, as such we continue to implement programs and initiatives that uplift local business, pursue innovative entrepreneurship, and promote local goods and delicacies to wider markets,” Duterte added.
For Mendiola, opening the fourth branch of Kape Bara at the SP lobby represents a significant boost for his small enterprise.
In a message delivered by Councilor J. Melchor Quitain Jr., Davao City Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte III gave credit to the people who made this milestone possible.
“To the creative minds behind this endeavor, congratulations on achieving this meaningful milestone and bringing to life a space that will soon serve quality coffee to workers, students, and every Dabawenyo who strives not only for themselves but for their families,” he said.
Dabawenyos are invited to visit the Kape Bara coffee station at the SP building’s ground floor, operating Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. CIO
