The City Government of Davao, in partnership with the Chinese Consulate General, distributed a total of 535 school bags with school supplies to learners of Columbus Elementary School in Barangay Buda, Marilog District on January 22, 2026.

All learners in the school, from Kindergarten to Grade 6, got their share.

The distribution was personally led by Vice Mayor Rodrigo S. Duterte II, who was joined by Chinese Consulate General Zhao Xiuzhen, Councilor Atty. Petite Principe, and School Division Superintendent Reynante Solitario.

Vice Mayor Rigo emphasized that the initiative ensures that every learner, especially those in far-flung areas, are equipped with the basic tools they need to pursue their studies.

“Pinaagi nianing bag gift giving to the learners of Columbus Elementary School, para ni sa atoang mga estudyante nga seryosohon og hatagan og importansiya ang ilahang edukasyon. This is one of the keys to success, not only in school but to also show your gratitude to your parents for their efforts in providing for your daily needs),” he said.

Sherwin C. Ybañez, principal of Columbus Elementary School, also expressed his heartfelt gratitude, hoping that the initiative will inspire the young learners to continue striving for their dreams whatever challenges they may encounter in life.

“Dako kaayo ang amoang pasalamat especially it brings really a genuine happiness to our learners in Columbus Elementary School. We are 535 in population and with that, all of learners were given 1 is to 1 bag (We are very grateful, especially because it brings genuine happiness to our learners at Columbus Elementary School. He added that the program not only eases the burden of parents but also motivates children to value their studies and persevere in their learning journey.

The City Government of Davao continues to prioritize education, ensuring that all learners will not only be provided with school supplies but also a long term support for child welfare and quality education. CIO
