The City Government of Davao, through the Davao City Library and Information Center (DCLIC) on Friday kicked off the 91st National Book Week Celebration.
This year’s theme for the event is “Tulay ang Pagbasa sa Bukas na Puno ng Pag-asa”
Salome Enoc, Head of the DCLIC during a Madayaw Live interview, bared that they started the celebration on Friday with the elimination round for the storytelling contest at the second floor of the children’s library, which was joined by participants from public schools Grades 1-4.
“Ang atong invitation is through the DepEd, nagasulat ta sa atong district supervisors kaya before ni nga activities naa na silay elimination around sa districts (We sent out invitations through the DepEd, we wrote to our district supervisors so that before the activities they have already conducted elimination around the districts),” Enoc said.
She added that while it is dubbed as the national book week, for DCLIC they considered it as the book month because of various activities scheduled for the whole month and not just concentrated in one week.
One of the celebration’s highlight is the Book Character Contest participated in by Day Care pupils.
“We hope na malingaw ang bata and dili ang sa paglingaw, maka promote pud tag love for literature, books and reading (We hope that the children will have fun, and beyond we can also use the event to promote love for literature, books, and reading),” Enoc said.
She added that in lieu of the celebration, various schools since October have written requests for mobile library schedules in their area. She encouraged interested schools to write to them in case they want to avail of the same service.
The whole-year round, Enoc said that the mobile library bus is scheduled to go to schools all over the city to provide services.
“[The schedule] we had it approved by DepEd Schools division superintendent Reynante Solitario. Na plot na ang schedule sa visit sa mobile library from Monday to Thursday, ang Friday among gigahin kung naay private school mu-request (The schedule, we had it approved by DepEd Schools Division Superintent Reynante Solitario. The schedule of the visits are from Monday to Thursday, it is already plotted. Fridays are reserved for private schools that will request),” she said.
She reminded Dabwenyos to not only visit the main library but also the district libraries located in Toril, Calinan, Tugbok– which have reading centers.
“Let us all make use of the facility provided by the city government,” she said.
The DCLIC main continues to operate from 7 am to 7 pm. It is currently widely utilized by children, high school students, and young professionals.
Enoc also invited out of school youth, mothers, and other interested individuals to utilize the facility well.
