The City Government of Davao allocated Php 3.6 million in financial assistance to several local government units that declared a state of calamity following the onslaught of Typhoon Basyang.
The ordinance authorizing the financial aid was approved by the 21st City Council on February 24, 2025, and comes from the 30 percent Quick Response fund out of the five percent Disaster Risk Reduction and Management fund of the City Government of Davao for 2026.
A total of Php 1,000,000 will be allocated to the Province of Surigao Del Sur, while Iligan City will get P500,000. The municipalities of Lanuza, Cortes, Madrid, Bayabas, Cagwait, Carmen, and San Miguel will each receive Php 300,000.
This is not the first time that the City Government of Davao extended financial support to local government units that have declared a state of calamity.
In 2025, Davao City released a total of Php 6.6 million in financial assistance to earthquake-hit Cebu and Davao Oriental.
Cebu received Php 3.9 million following the magnitude 6.9 earthquake on September 30, 2025, distributed among the Provincial Government of Cebu (Php 1 million), Bogo City (Php 500,000), and the municipalities of Medellin, Daanbantayan, Tabogon, Madridejos, Sogod, Tabuelan, San Remigio, and Borbo received P300,000 each.
Meanwhile, Davao Oriental received Php 2.7 million aid after twin earthquakes struck the province on November 5–6, 2025. The Provincial Government of Davao Oriental received Php 1 million, Mati City Php 500,000, while the municipalities of Tarragona, Caraga, Manay, and Baganga each received P300, 000.
Beyond financial aid, Davao City also distributed food and non-food items in Cebu on September 30, 2025.
Another batch of food and non-food items was sent to Cebu on November 13–14, 2025, for victims of typhoons Tino and Uwan.
Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, Chairperson of Committee on Finance, Ways and Means, and Appropriations said that the city remains financially prepared, with an available balance of Php 235,203,855, ensuring that the city can continue to respond to emergencies.
“We have an available balance of Two Hundred Thirty-Five Million, Two Hundred Tree Thousand, Eight Hundred Fifty-Five Pesos (Php 235,203,855),” he said. CIO
