Citywide youth activities launched. Brimming with creativity and youthful spirit, the Davao City Youth Development Office opens the Linggo ng Kabataan 2026 through a vibrant series of activities that showcased the talent and leadership of Dabawenyouth.
The Linggo ng Kabataan activities are anchored on Republic Act 11768 or the Act Strengthening the Sangguniang Kabataan, Institutionalizing Additional Reforms to Revitalize Youth Participation in Local Governance and by Providing Honorarium, Other Benefits, and Privileges, amending for the purpose certain sections of RA No. 10742, otherwise known as the “Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act of 2015”, and under Section 30 of the law that mandates the annual observance of Linggo ng Kabataan.
Emmanuel Crismas, Acting Division Chief of DCYDO, told the City Information Office (CIO) that the Linggo ng Kabataan activities are designed to inspire and motivate young people, encouraging them to take part in activities organized by the local government.
“Very important kaayo siya nga activity to make the city more inclusive nga ma enganyo nato, ma invite, ma encourage ug ma motivate atoang mga kabatan’onan nga musalmot gyud sa mga activities nga buhaton sa atoang pang gamhanan (This activity is very important to make the city more inclusive, so that we can invite, encourage, and motivate more of our youth to actively participate in the activities organized by our local government),” he said.
The celebration started with the opening ceremony on August 3, which also featured the symbolic turnover from the outgoing Junior Officials 2025 to the incoming Junior Officials Batch Sawaga-Dalwangan 2026. While, on August 4, the Davao City Junior Officials City Tour will take place, followed by the Extemporaneous Speech 2026 on August 5 at the SP Conference Hall. On August 10, the Short Story (Video) and Photo and Video Journalism judging will be held at the CSWDO Conference Room.
The festivities will culminate on August 12 at SM Lanang Premier- SMX Convention with a series of new major events including Drag Queen 2026, Tawag ng Tanghalan, Powerdance Showdown featuring the Top 3 finalists and the Closing Ceremony with the Gabi ng Pagkilala sa Galing ng Kabataang Dabawenyouth.
Beyond the competitions, the celebration will be recognizing the nominees for Most Outstanding Sangguniang Kabataan Council, Most Outstanding Influential Youth Leader, and Most Outstanding Project Implemented in the city.
“Mu participate ta dinhi sa atoang selebrasyon and also I’m inviting mga Kabataan to participate sa atoang culmination activity sa August 12 sa SM Lanang Premier SMX Convention (Let’s participate in our celebration and I’m also inviting the Dabawenyo youth to participate in our culmination activity on August 12 at SM Lanang Premier SMX Convention),” Crismas added.
