The City Government of Davao is continuing the conduct of structural assessments following the June 8 2026 7.8 magnitude earthquake felt at intensity V in Davao City.
The ongoing assessments is being conducted by the Office of the City Building Official (OCBO) in coordination with the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), City Social Welfare and Development Offices (CSWDO) and other concerned city offices.
On Monday evening, to give way to the assessments, the city temporarily suspended face to face classes in schools, and declared work-from-home set up for government workers, including local government office and national government agencies.
The suspension was also done in anticipation of aftershocks from the earthquake.
Meanwhile, to complement this, the private sector was also encouraged to adopt similar working arrangements while educational institutions are asked to adopt online or distance learning.
As of the date, the city has no confirmed casualties related to the earthquake. No major damage has been reported to vital infrastructures, including power and water systems, major bridges, and other facilities.
The Bucana Bridge, which sustained damage, remains safe as it only had minor damage, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways.
The 7.8 Magnitude earthquake on June 8, 2026 hit Sarangani and surrounding provinces.
It was an offshore quake and took place 32 kilometers west of Maasim, Sarangani and was generated by subduction in the Cotabato Trench.
The City Government also continues to encourage Dabawenyos to report destructive cracks in their homes, offices, or establishments so that the OCBO can conduct assessments.
