The City Government of Davao has implemented energy efficiency and conservation measures aimed at reducing fuel and electricity consumption by 20 percent across local offices to ease the impact of rising prices.
Engineer Khent Ronald S. Olamit, Engineer I of the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO), explained that the Energy Efficiency and Conservation (ECC) measures were designed to guide city offices in adopting practical steps to cut down on usage.
“As much as possible ang atoang monthly consumption when it comes to fuel and electricity is ma reduce gyud by 10 to 20 percent. Mao ni ang reason nga gimugna ning ECC measures para ma guide ang city government of Davao specifically tung mga offices nato dria nga i-adopt or sundon ning mga measures when it comes to electricity and fuel para matabangan nato ang matag-usa (As much as possible, our monthly consumption when it comes to fuel and electricity should really be reduced by 10 to 20 percent. This is the reason why the ECC measures were created to guide the city government of Davao, specifically our offices, to adopt or follow these measures when it comes to electricity and fuel so that we can help each other),” he told Tara Magplano Ta with City Planning and Development Office over Davao City Disaster Radio on April 15, 2026.
The measures encourage offices to activate sleep settings on equipment, set air-conditioning thermostats no lower than 24 degrees Celsius, keep doors of air-conditioned spaces closed, and turn off lights and computers during lunch breaks and after office hours. Offices are also urged to shift to energy-efficient technologies such as LED lighting and inverter-type air-conditioning systems.
In line with digitalization, online meetings are recommended whenever possible, while paperless transactions are also encouraged to minimize printer use.
Trip consolidation has been identified as an important practice of fuel conservation.
As part of its continuing conservation initiative, the city government will adopt a flexible work arrangement every Friday beginning April 17, 2026.
Offices whose functions can be performed remotely will shift to a work-from-home setup, while departments providing frontline and essential services will maintain on-site personnel to ensure uninterrupted public service.
Errol John S. Denosta, Acting Head of the Project Monitoring and Evaluation Division of CPDO, added that by taking these small and mindful actions, Dabawenyos can make a significant difference.
“Sa tanan Dabawenyos, makaya ra gihapun nato ni. Sa atoang mga gagmay na ginabuhat, nga ang simpleng pag palong sa atung mga appliances kung wala ginagamit, ang pag-igmat sa atoang mga ginabuhat, these are little things nga kung atoang pag iisipon lang, but siguro it will turn nga kung kita tanan naga buhat ani dako ni siya nga impact sa atoa (To all Dabawenyos, we can still manage this. In our small actions, like simply turning off our appliances when not in use, being mindful of what we do, these are little things but if we all do this, it will have a big impact on us),” he added.
