The City Government of Davao, through the Davao Bus Project Social Development Program (SDP), has called on public utility jeepney (PUJ) drivers and allied workers anew to join the Social Preparation Training, a capability enhancement training for the beneficiaries of the project.
Since 2024, the program has trained 81 batches, involving a total of 6,239 participants.
SDP Licensed Senior Social Work Associate III Joshua Mate on Monday highlighted that the training serves as a bridge to prepare public utility jeepney (PUJ) drivers, operators, and allied workers for the shift from traditional jeepneys to a modernized bus system.
“Naga-reach out na mi sa mga PUJ driver, operator, ug allied workers na mu-apil sa social preparation training. Pre-requisite ni siya kay para ni sa ilang mga entitlements. In time na mag-modernize na ta, madawat na tong mga PUJ driver (We reached out to PUJ drivers, operators, and allied workers to join the social preparation training. It’s a pre-requisite for their entitlements so they will be approved once transportation became modernized),” he said.
The two-day training covers key topics on personal development, financial literacy and entrepreneurial mind-setting, gender sensitivity, and employment facilitation.
Moreover, a Php 700 per day is provided to participants to ensure that they are compensated for the loss of their daily income.
Interested drivers, operators, and allied transport workers can register at the SDP Office located at People’s Park or call from these phone numbers: 0967-165-3773, 0966-047-6257, 0917-814-4696
The Davao Public Transport Modernization Project (DPTMP), formerly known as the High-Priority Bus System (HPBS), is a long-term initiative implemented by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and is being implemented by the City Government of Davao to address local public transit needs, in the hopes of improving commuter comfort for Dabawenyos.
