The members of the 21st Davao City council on Tuesday recognized Davao City youth for winning the green initiatives during the recent international summit held in the city last March 26-30.

SP Education, Science and Technology, Arts and Culture Chair, Atty. Antoinette G. Principe cited during her privileged speech the performance of Dabawenyo youth during the Actions for Earth- Global Youth Summit 2026 held at Wyndham Hotel, Davao City.

The summit, which carried the theme “Responsible Consumption,” gathered young leaders from various countries, including Singapore, Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam, South Korea, India, Mongolia, and the Philippines. The theme aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those addressing clean water, sustainable cities, climate action, and the protection of life on land and below water.

She noted the commendable performance of the Dabawenyo youth who joined as participants in the summit and recognized their achievements.

Kayden Axel M. Maglangit from the Davao City Special School secured second place in the Junior Category for his project “Smart Pavement: Maximizing Land for Responsible Energy”.

Jastine P. Suan from the University of Mindanao won the second place in the Senior Category with Project Soilmates: Scrap to Sprout Initiative.

Von B. Jabagaton, an alumnus of the University of Immaculate Concepcion, won third place in the senior category for his project “Green Circles”.

Principe said that these young individuals exemplified innovation, environmental consciousness, and the intellectual capacity of Davao’s youth to compete and excel on the global stage.

“This is more than a recognition of individual excellence. This is a reflection of what we, as a city, have been striving to build, a generation that is informed, proactive, and globally competitive, yet deeply rooted in social responsibility,” she said.

She added that the recognition of the young achievers is not merely ceremonial but strategic as it sends a clear message to other Davao City youth that their ideas matter, that their efforts are valued, and that the government stands with them.

She added that this engagement also opens opportunities for future collaboration on youth driven and environmentally sustainable initiatives, areas that are increasingly critical in our government’s priorities especially under her committee.

“if we are serious about shaping the future, then we must invest not only in infrastructure, but in intellect; not only in programs, but in people especially our youth. Let us take this opportunity to formally acknowledge these outstanding individuals and explore ways to support similar initiatives moving forward,” she said.
