The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has destroyed 296 modified mufflers (bora-bora) and 270 lantakas, which were confiscated during a series of operations aimed at ensuring public safety and curbing noise pollution.

City Ordinance No. 0334-12, enacted on August 7, 2012, is the Comprehensive Transport and Traffic Code of Davao City, which prohibits the installation of modified mufflers in any type of vehicle.

PCol. Mannan C. Muarip, Acting City Director of DCPO, told the City information Office (CIO) that the ordinance strictly prohibits the installation of modified mufflers in any type of vehicle, citing their harmful impact on both the peace and order in the community.

“We must always coordinate with the barangay chairman. Maraming sumbong ang dumarating sa kanila mula sa kanilang nasasakupan. With that, tulong-tulong, mas madali nating ma-identify kung kanino galing ang mga mufflers (We must always coordinate with the barangay chairman. They receive many complaints from their constituents because of that. We need to work together so that we can easily identify where the mufflers came from),” he said.

Muarip added that they are now investigating the sources of these illegal mufflers to dismantle the supply chain and prevent further violations.

He also emphasized that the operations will continue, with police units conducting barangay-level raids and checkpoints to intercept violators and dismantle the supply chain of illegal mufflers.

“Sa ating kababayan, Dabawenyos, tayo’y nakikiusap sa ating mga kabataan diyan na merong pang mga motorsiklo na nandiyan sa mga kada barangay ng syudad, tayoy nakikiusap i-surrender niyo yan inyong mga muffler. Pwede niyo yan isurrender sa inyong mga barangay kapitan at doon namin kukunin, At kung hindi mag su-surrender, pupuntahan naming yung barangay na yon, in coordination with thee barangay official, kukunin naming yang mga muffler na gamit niyo (To our fellow Dabawenyos, we are appealing to our youth who have motorcycles, we are asking you to surrender your mufflers. You can surrender those to your barangay captains and we will collect them there. And if you don’t surrender them, we will go to that barangay, in coordination with the barangay officials, and confiscate the mufflers you are using),” he added.

The destruction was carried out on January 13, 2026. CIO
