The Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO) has deployed an additional team to prevent criminality and protect peace and order during night time.

PSSO Head Angel Sumagaysay said that they have deployed Civil Security Unit(CSU) personnel in support of the Davao City Police Office’s (DCPO) efforts on peace and order.

“Ang PSSO nag organize ani, kani nga team na ilang trabaho is kada gabii mugawas og mag roving (The PSSO organized a team whose job is to go out every night and conduct roving patrols),” he said.

Sumagaysay said that initially, the team was formed to catch vandals but later expanded to cover other disturbances and ordinance violations.

“Nung makita sa City Mayor’s Office na epektibo, gi-apil na tanan: mga minors na naglatagaw disoras sa gabii, and we have ordinance na nagaregulate ani, gidugangan ang tasking tanan na pati na ang sa criminality (When the City Mayor’s Office saw that it was effective, it was expanded to include checking on minors loitering late at night, and we have an ordinance that regulates this. The task was expanded to cover everything, including criminality), ” he said.

He said that the CSUs, considered as peace officers, have undergone orientation to conduct warrantless arrests.

Since its creation, the team already helped disperse two riot incidents, apprehended two persons for vandalism, and apprehended 23 curfew violators. The team also apprehended adults who violated city ordinances.

Sumagaysay said that apprehended minors, including girls, were endorsed to the nearest police stations and City Social Welfare and Development Office because they have the capability to deal with them.

Sumagaysay added that apart from the recent development, they also deployed a team to address reports of kite strings causing injuries to motorists at the coastal roads.

“Gi-coordinate namo (We have coordinated with the) ang barangay captains and assigned dedicated personnel para magtuyok-tuyok sa lapad na area sa (to check the wide coastal area),” he said, adding their personnel found two kites after monitoring. However, the owners are nowhere to be found as it was tied to a post.

He said that before the concern on kite flying rose at the coastal road, a dedicated team had already been assigned to monitor kite flying in areas near the airport.

Sumagaysay urged Dabawenyos to report to authorities, especially through the 911 hotline, sightings of kites in the areas mentioned. CIO
