The City Government of Davao, through the Vices Regulation Unit (VRU), is reminding Dabawenyos and visitors anew to follow the city’s anti-smoking and liquor ban ordinances even during the holiday season.

PLt. Col. Jacy Jay Francia (Ret.), Acting Head of the VRU, told the Madayaw Program over city-owned Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) that the VRU will continue its proactive efforts in reminding and inspecting the compliance of establishments to the said ordinances.

“Nagapahigayon gihapon mi og proactive measures sa pag-inspection ug pakighimamat or dialogue aning mga tag-iya og mga bars na tumanon gihapon nato ang ordinance nga diha ra ta kutob sa oras nga ala una wala na gyu’y consumption of liquor (We continue to conduct inspections and dialogues with bar and establishment owners to remind them to follow our ordinance, wherein consumption of liquor is already prohibited by 1 a.m.),” he said.

Discourses with bar owners and other establishments also continue to emphasize the provisions of the ordinances, as well as remind them to comply with these legislations.

For almost 24 years now, Davao City has been implementing the Anti-Smoking Ordinance which prohibits smoking in public places and public conveyances, with amendments that prohibit the selling of tobacco products like cigarettes and vapes to minors.

The city has also been implementing the liquor ban, which prohibits the selling and consumption of alcoholic beverages from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m., as well as drinking in public places.

Individuals caught in violation of these ordinances may be penalized following the set fines and sanctions under the ordinances.

Francia said that as of October 2025, the VRU has issued a total of 2,215 citation tickets for violation of the liquor ban.

Several establishments were also sanctioned with suspension of business permit due to multiple violations of the said ordinance.

The VRU, in partnership with the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), has also issued a total of 9,592 citation tickets to individuals who violated the Anti-Smoking Ordinance as of October. CIO
