Students from Sta. Ana Elementary School, Matina Central Elementary School, guests from House of Hope, and Criminology interns gathered on Tuesday at the SM Ecoland Annex to join the Fire Square Roadshow 2026 in line with the Fire Prevention Month.

The Bureau of Fire Protection(BFP), in partnership with the City Government of Davao and SM Malls, held the activity, which was
intended to encourage the culture of security and community participation in fire prevention.

The activities at the Fire Square Roadshow include mini rappelling, earthquake and fire drill, PPE and fire fighting equipment, basic life support and fire escape maze.

BFP Spokesperson FSINSP Frances Marie S. Sendrijas told Madayaw that they targeted the youth as primary stakeholder of the event.

“Our target for this month are really the kids because we all know that they are part of the vulnerable sectors of our community. We would really like to enlighten and encourage them and of course, to raise awareness sa ating fire safety and prevention so that in early age alam nila kung ano ang gawin hindi lang sa sunog but ba’t ibang emergency (Our target for this month is really the children because we all know that they are part of the vulnerable sectors of our community. We would really like to enlighten and encourage them, and of course raise awareness about fire safety and prevention so that at an early age they already know what to do—not only in case of fire, but also in other types of emergencies),” she said.

She said that roadshows are done simultaneously nationwide by the BFP in partnership with SM Malls.

Apart from students, Dabawenyos from all ages are welcome to join the Fire Square Roadshow until March 4.

The City Government of Davao, through Davao City Councilor Richlyn N. Justol Baguilod, Chairperson of the Committee on Women, Children, and Family Relations, expressed support for the event.

She reminded everyone that fire prevention is not just the task of one agency alone but a shared responsibility of the whole community. CIO
