The Davao City Special Needs Intervention Center for Children (DCSNICC), in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), launched a week-long skills training program from July 20 to 24, 2026, empowering parents and guardians of children with special needs to gain practical livelihood skills.
A total of 50 participants joined the Pinay Technician and Bread, Pastries and Baking skills training program, which covered electrical troubleshooting, domestic appliance repair training and baking skills that can be used to earn additional income or start small business ventures.
Julie P. Dayaday, Department Head of CSWDO, in a message delivered by Juenalyn M. Pablo, emphasized that the center continues to develop strategies and ideas to support families, urging parents to remain present and actively guide their children.
“Daghan kaayo og activities ang DCSNICC kumbaga dili lang kay ang maga bata ang gi focus kay pati pod ang mga ginikanan. Dili palang ni siya kundi daghan pa kaayo og mga brilliant ideas and strategies na pwede pa ihatag sainyoha mga ginikanan. Basta hangyo lang mi, naa lang gyud mo permi nga mu giya sa inyohang mga anak (DCSNICC has a lot of activities, it’s not just focused on the children but also on the parents. This is not just it, but there are still many brilliant ideas and strategies that can be given to you, parents. Just please, always be there to guide your children),” she said.
Councilor Antoinette G. Principe, Chairperson of the Committee on Education, Science and Technology underscored the city’s vision of building a community where every child with special needs is given the opportunity to grow and reach their fullest potential while parents are empowered to become an even stronger partner in that journey.
“This training is not only about acquiring technical skills, it is about opening doors to livelihood opportunities, strengthening families and reminding every parent that you are not alone. By investing in your knowledge and capabilities, we are also investing in the future of your children. To all parents, I salute your unwavering love, patience and resilience,” she added.
Following the training, participants will receive NCII certificates for Pinoy Technician and Bread, Pastries and Baking.
Mary Joy Biscayno one of the participants also expressed her gratitude, stating that the practical skills gained from the training can support their daily needs and create additional livelihood opportunities.
“Dako kaayo siya og tabang ug dako kaayo mi og pasalamat kay kami tanan nanginahanglan ani nga part pero, kami sa amoang anak is need gyud siya kay atleast naa miy pang adlaw adlaw or maka sideline ani sa amoang sitwasyon (It is really a great help and we are very grateful because we all need this for our child. We really needed this because at least we have something for our daily needs or additional sideline in our situation),” she added. CIO
