Davao City continues to solidify its reputation as a rising sports powerhouse after securing the third place during the 2025 Batang Pinoy held in General Santos City, marking a significant leap from last year’s fourth-place finish.
The city’s delegation delivered an impressive performance collecting 53 golds, 53 silvers and 68 bronze.
Michael Denton P. Aportadera, acting head of the City Sports Development Division, told the City Information Office that he was proud and thankful to the athletes and coaches throughout the competition.
“Third place is really a strong finish. I’m really happy that we were able to finish in 3rd place,” he said.
Aportadera emphasized that the city approached prioritized growth over medal pressure. They encouraged athletes to embrace the experience and build camaraderie among them, which are values needed for podium finish.
He said that with this year’s third place finish, the city is now setting its target to an even higher place in the wake of its consistent top 5 placement over the past years.
“Going up, second and first. That is the target. Davao City is really an LGU to contend with when it comes to sports,” he added.
He also said that to further enhance the athletes’ skills and competitiveness in future sports events, the city is planning to establish a regional training facility.
Meanwhile, In the overall medal tally, Pasig City was hailed as an overall champion, collecting 95 gold, 72 silver and 87 bronze medals, overtaking Baguio City which has 91 gold, 72 silvers and 74 bronze. Davao City finished third and Quezon City now settled at fourth with 45 golds, 51 silvers and 57 bronze.
To honor the achievements and dedication of Dabawenyo athletes and coaches, Aportadera said that the City Government will be conducting an annual recognition event for outstanding performances in regional, national, and international sports competitions, including the Palarong Pambansa, Batang Pinoy, Para Games, and the BIMP-EAGA.
