The Davao City Sports Development Division (SDD) has distributed 764 sports equipment to schools under the Aktibo Dabawenyo Program – School for Sports, ensuring that young Dabawenyo athletes will have access to proper training tools during their training sessions.
The equipment was provided to Tacunan Elementary School, Lapu-Lapu Elementary School, Catalunan Grande Elementary School, and Marilog National High School.
The distributed gear includes table tennis rackets, chess boards, barbell plates, javelins, agility ladders, training balls, elastic bands, kicking pads, gym mats, and mini hurdles.
Althealyn V. Diola, Sports and Games Coordinator of SDD, told the City Information Office (CIO) that the initiative is part of the Aktibo Dabawenyo Program’s continuing efforts to ensure young athletes can consistently practice with proper tools and develop discipline, while teacher-coaches are empowered to implement training programs that extend beyond short-term activities.
“Aside sa maka tuon ang mga bata and mahasa ilaha skills, matabangan sad nato ang mga teacher-coaches na mag implement og training program kay para og mahuman ang program, makabalo na sila and maka connect na anytime sa mga deployed coaches if they need some help (Aside from helping the children to learn and hone their skills, we can also assist teacher-coaches in implementing training programs so that once the program concludes, they will know what to do and can connect with the deployed coaches anytime if they need help),” she said.
The Aktibo Dabawenyo Program, which runs from June 24 to October 27, is currently underway with sessions conducted every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at Tacunan, Lapu-Lapu and Catalunan Grande Elementary School, while Tuesday and Thursday sessions are held at Marilog National High School.
Through the distribution, the SDD continues to reaffirms its commitment to grassroots sports development, equipping schools, teachers and coaches with the resources to cultivate competitive athletes who may one day carry Davao City’s banner in national and international competitions. CIO
