The City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) is preparing learning tours for schools outside the city center, as well as district activities for the 2026 Araw ng Dabaw celebration, which are centered on the people and the community.
Based on the official Araw ng Dabaw activities, the tourism office will spearhead this year’s wider Dabawenyo Ko: School-Based Tour on March 3, 5, and 10 at Paquibato Elementary School, Daniel M. Perez Elementary School, and Marilog Central Elementary School.
Another schedule for the school-based tour will be on March 12, 17, and 19 at Villafuerte Elementary School, Los Amigos Elementary School, and Magsaysay Elementary School.
The Dabawenyo Ko Heritage Walking Tour–City Hall will also be held on March 14 and March 21.
Apart from these, the Araw ng Dabaw sa Distrito will be held on March 9, 11, and 16 in District 1–Barangay Matina Aplaya; District 1–Barangay 8-A; and District 2–Barangay Paquibato.
Another schedule of Araw ng Dabaw sa Distrito will be conducted in District 2–Barangay Communal, District 3–Barangay Sirib, and District 3–Barangay Lower Tamugan.
Willenito Tormis Jr., CTOO Officer-in-Charge, said during the Araw ng Dabaw press launch on Thursday, that community events would be given weight, and such emphasis is also one of the reasons for extending all Araw ng Dabaw activities until the end of the month.
“Ang atong Araw ng Distrito every week naa siyay lahi-lahi na area, ug kadtong Dabawenyo Ko school tour lahi lahi to siya. Actually kadto among gihatagan og weigh para daghan-daghan pud mi og maadtuan (Our Araw ng Distrito is held every week in different areas, and the Dabawenyo Ko school tour was also conducted in various places. Actually, we gave it more weight so that we could visit more locations as well),” he said.
He said that the tourism office asked the Department of Education to identify the schools to be visited.
“Kini sila adtoan nato para makita nila nga mao diay ni ang City Hall, mao ni ang history sa city hall, kay dili man sila everyday maka-adto sa city center. Mao na gi-ask sa DepEd to recommend the schools (We visit them so they will see that this is the City Hall, and this is the history of the City Hall, because they don’t get to go to the city center every day. That’s why we asked DepEd to recommend the schools),” he said, adding that the activity will not just gather students from one school but will also include students from other schools within the same district.
Tormis added that the Dabawenyo Ko school-based tour will cater to Grades 1–3 and Grades 4–6, with each age group having different learning modes.
Aside from the school tour, the Dabawenyo Heritage Walk will be open to the public. The tour will consist of a walk starting from Rizal Park, proceeding to the Oboza Heritage House—the oldest house in Davao—and ending at the City Hall. CIO
