The Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) released an official advisory detailing the authorized fare rates for motorized tricycles-for-hire (MTH) and outlining specific steps for Dabawenyos to easily report overcharging drivers.
Ret. P/Col. Dionisio Abude Head of CTTMO told the City Information Office (CIO) that the initiative aims to safeguard workers, students, and senior citizens who rely on tricycles for daily travel.
“Dapat karon ma aware na ang mga pasahero nga mao na ilahang buhaton para dali lang ma conduct og investigation. Kung naa sa amoang record, ipatawag ug ishow cause order namo. Kung wala man, atangan namo didto, amoang iflagdown kay naga conduct pod ta og operation para sila madakpan (Passengers should now be aware that this is what they need to do for the investigation to be conducted easily. If they have a record, we will summon them, and release a show cause order. If not, we will conduct an operation and flag them down to apprehend them),” he said.
He added that the guidelines ensure fair fares, guaranteeing that vulnerable sectors such as students, senior citizens and Persons with disabilities (PWDs) are not exploited.
Commuters who witness or experience instances of overcharging are encouraged to immediately report them by noting the PUV ID, CTTMO registration number or MTH body number, and the plate number of the tricycle.
They are also advised to document or take photos of these details, making sure to include the exact location of the incident and the amount of fare charged.
Reports may be submitted through the Davao City Reports Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/davaocityreports, by letter to CTTMO, or via email at cttmo@davaocity.gov.ph.
Under MTH Board Resolution No. 01-2020, series of 2020, the official fare rates are Php10 for the first four kilometers for regular passengers and Php 8 for senior citizens, students, and persons with disabilities (PWDs). Each succeeding kilometer costs Php 1 for regular passengers and Php 0.80 for discounted sectors.
The CTTMO also rolled out an awareness campaign by displaying tarpaulins indicating fare rates and how to report overcharging in Tricycle Operators and Drivers Associations (TODA), Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJs) and transport terminals.
“Nagbutang ta og mga tarpaulin informing the commuters nga dapat kung dunay maningil og taas, dapat aware na sila nga kwaon ang PUV ID, ilahang picturan, kung pwede ma kuha nila ang plate number ug pwede makuha ang Body number kay mao na ang 3 ka requirements namo (We put up tarpaulins informing the commuters that if someone charges a high fare, they should be aware to take a picture of the driver’s PUV ID and if possible, the plate number and body number should be obtained because those are our three requirements),” he added.
Abude urged Dabawenyos to be vigilant and stay informed to help the city maintain fair and transparent transport operations. CIO
