The Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT) said there will be enough buses for passengers who will travel home during the Lenten season.
DCOTT Manager Aisa Usop said during the i-Speak Media Forum on Thursday that amid lower bus count recently observed amid the spike in oil prices, the terminal is optimistic of enough bus for passengers who will go home for the observance of lent,
Usop said that the Lenten season is among the peak seasons for bus travel, and many, especially those directly affected by rising oil prices are expected to choose public transport instead of riding private vehicles.
On peak days, the DCOTT caters to 1,000-1,500 bus trips or between
50,000-75,000 passengers.
“I am expecting as mudagsa ang pasahero nato Friday , diba bakasyon na, and atoang semana santa, nakig coordinate ko with LTFRB Director Nonito Llanos nga hatagan og special permits ang bus companies nga mu apply because I already informed our bus operators for them to apply in advance. Same as the usual naga apply gyud na sila og special permits kay mao ang peak seasons nila (I am expecting a surge in our passengers this Friday since it’s already vacation time and we are approaching the Holy Week. I have coordinated with LTFRB Director Ninito Llanos to grant special permits to bus companies that will apply, as I have already informed our bus operators to submit their applications in advance. As usual, they regularly apply for special permits during peak seasons since this is their busiest period),” Usop said.
She said that since the rise in oil prices started, they monitor the number of bus trips and also van trips.
Meanwhile, to ensure the safety and security of the terminal for the incoming Lenten season, national agencies have already visited and assessed the compliance of drivers and passengers to pertinent laws ensuring passenger safety.
Usop also said that they are in close coordination with the security cluster for the deployment of members of the public safety and security cluster in the area. The terminal is equipped with security facilities such as CCTVs and X-Ray baggage scanners that help in the over-all public safety and security situation during peak hours. CIO Written by: K.
