The Davao City Office for the Culture and Arts (OCA) on Thursday bared that after the repainting of the Davao City Hall, the restoration of windows will be next.

OCA Head Oscar Casaysay during the I-Speak Media forum Thursday said that the design of the windows is being finalized.

“Next phase is ang pag ayos sa bintana so we are already in coordination with mga pool of experts na mga architects na member sa National Commission for the Culture of the Arts kay gusto gyud nato magiging close to the original (The next phase will be the restoration of the windows, so we are already in coordination with the pool of exports and architects who are members of the NCCA because we want it to be closer to the original),” he said.

Casaysay said that they will rely on old photos and also improve the design. He said that they are still in the process of budgeting.

“We are now finalizing the material to be used, the design, and the cost,” he said.

Casaysay said that they have also planned to improve the steps of the City Hall, its lights and surrounding landscape.

Casaysay said that as observed after the centennial celebration of the Davao City Hall Facade last March, more Dabawenyos came to appreciate the historical value of the site.

He said that the Davao City Hall is just a start.

“We are requesting budget for restoration of other heritage sites within the city,” he said.

He added that they are conducting inventory of these sites.

Further, they continue to advocate for policies protecting these monuments and heritage sites, including protection of buildings 50 years old and above.

“People in Davao are becoming more aware and old houses are being used as restaurants and events centers,” Casaysay said. CIO
